Concept
Being tasked with creating a drawing that
responds to our experience in an everyday
space, I chose our local bagel shop, Einstein
Bros. Bagels. I created my concept of this
piece where I found my color. This being, in
the sliver of pink debit card I would see
poking out of my wallet, as well as the pink
flesh of people’s lips and tongues when they
ate. I used these observations to form my
concept of consumerism, both in the literal
eating sense and the capitalist sense. Since
pink is associated with femininity, I also
delved into body image issues.
Throughout my research, I tried to capture the
look of the found objects. The very simple
graphics of the logo and the great details within
the bagels, so I took these ideas and made it
into style changes within the piece.
